It will not be possible to continue using natural gas once the project is live as the gas supplied in our pipes will have been changed to hydrogen
You can view our map to see whether your home or business is within the proposed Redcar Hydrogen Community.
Tenant
If you are a tenant living within the proposed Redcar Hydrogen Community, we have liaised with your landlord about the proposed switch to hydrogen gas and how it may affect the appliances in your home.
If the gas appliances in your home are owned by the landlord, it will be their decision about whether the appliances are switched to 100% hydrogen versions or electric alternatives are installed.
During the trial, if you pay for your gas and electricity bill, we will ensure that you do not pay any more than you would have done, had you continued to use natural gas.

Landlord
If you are the landlord of a home or business premises in the proposed Redcar Hydrogen Community area, we will continue to keep you up-to-date with our plans.
You will to need to agree to us undertaking a survey at the property if we haven’t already done so, and it will be your decision whether to choose hydrogen, or an electric alternative if the project goes ahead. We’d ensure the bill payer is not financially disadvantaged during the project.

Business
We understand that the needs of businesses during a proposed conversion will vary and we are committed to working with you to understand your individual needs. Any gas appliances will need to be switched to hydrogen appliances or swapped for an electric alternative.
During the trial, if you pay for your gas and electricity bill, we will ensure that you do not pay any more than you would have done, had you continued to use natural gas.
